Bernard L. Hayes Sr., 73, of Corning passed to be with his Lord at 7:30 PM on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Genesis Perry County Medical Center. He was born on Saturday, February 14, 1948 in Zanesville, Ohio the son of the late Leo Hayes and Mildred Havens Hayes. He served his country in Vietnam in the U.S. Army. Bernard received three purple hearts and was awarded the commendation for heroism and several other medals. Bernard was a member of North Terrace Church of Christ and attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Lexington. Ann Searls, 90, of Zanesville passed at 9:10 AM Sunday, November 7, 2021 at the Cedar Hill Care Center. She was born on Wednesday, September 30, 1931 in Corning County the daughter of John Archie Karkus and Winifred "Winnie" Bowen Higgins Karkus. Ann lost her dad in 1941 from injuries from a mining accident. She graduated from Glouster High School, Class of 1949. She was prom queen her Senior Year at Glouster High School. Ann married Jack in 1951 and they had 2 children, Carol Ann and Mark "Butch" Edwin Bechtold. Ann was a cab driver for Columbus Cab for 30 years, from 1970 to 2000.
