AC "Charles" Smid, a passionate outdoorsman, entrepreneur, and conservationist passed away on October 1, 2023, while fly fishing the Kluatantan River in British Columbia, Canada. The cause of death was heart failure. He was 73 years old. Charles was born the second of five children to Arthur C. and Mary Ellen Smid in Naperville, IL, on January 25, 1950. A distinguished alumnus of the University of Montana, he became a restaurant entrepreneur in his early professional life. He was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, but was a Montana man through and through and spent his early days growing up in Sweet Grass, Montana. His parents Mary and George Smith ran a farm east of town and a bar, the Border Inn, in Sweetgrass where Bill would occasionally bartend and keep the peace. Zach was born on October 31,1980 in Superior, MT in the same wild mountains where he passed. Those wild mountains influenced his early adolescent years as he grew up in Montana. Thomas "Tom" Strauss Lehman, 84, of Missoula, passed-away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 3, 2021. He was born on February 4, 1937, in Chicago, IL to Lawrence and Sue Lehman. Tom was raised in Colorado and chose Montana as his best last place. He graduated from Colorado A & M in 1960 then managed the family ranch in Ennis until it sold in 1967. He then moved to Bozeman where he was involved in many successful businesses and was well known for helping Gary Tschache invent the Montana Turd Bird.
