Joanne Keith Hires passed away on July 4, 2023 surrounded by her family and went to her heavenly home. She was born on January 11,1936 in Greenville, GA to the late Josephine Catherine and Cornelius Jackson Keith. Also, preceded in death by an only sister, Jacquelyn Keith Hornsby of Iron City, GA. Joanne was raised in Greenville, GA on a dairy farm and graduated from Greenville HS at the age of 17. She went on to attend Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and earned a BS degree in Business Administration and Mathematics at the age of 20 in 1956. Michael Ray Welborn, 76, of Clarkesville, GA was the son of the late S.L. (Spud) and Sara Welborn. He was born in the historic "Charm House" when it was a doctor's clinic in Clarkesville. He passed away on Thursday, February 4. Graduating from the University of GA in 1969, his 30-year career with the Cooperative Extension Service included the counties of Gwinnett, Oconee, Pike, Henry, and Newton. Mr. Welborn said the most rewarding part of being a "County Agent" was working with kids in 4-H - seeing them develop starting in the 5th grade to seeing how successful they were in their future careers. Born in Augusta on April 11, 1947, Susan was the daughter of the late Andrew L. and Pauline Smith Van Dyke. She was retired from a sales career with Macy's department stores. She and her late husband Charles were helpful in the Raysville Ministry and were helpful in many areas of service with their church including the church bus ministry and Backyard Bible Clubs in Warren County. Kathryn Stiles Stribling, 94, of Athens, GA, formerly of Habersham County, passed away on December 31, 2020, following an extended period of declining health. Born September 20, 1926, in Toccoa, GA, Kathryn Haygood Stiles was the daughter of the late John Campbell and Mary Dimon Stiles. Her father owned a number of hotels across the South, and as he expanded and improved each purchase, his family lived in that hotel for an extended period.
