Dianne M. McDermott, 78, wrapped up a beautiful, laughter-filled life on Friday, April 11, 2025, with her family by her side in her cozy Vernon Hills home. Born December 30, 1946, Dianne brought joy, humor, and the occasional over-the-top holiday decoration to everyone lucky enough to know her. Originally from Chicago, with a sunny detour through Florida, Dianne settled in Vernon Hills six years ago. She earned her Bachelor's degree from DePaul University, where she also joined Alpha Omega Sorority and made friendships so strong they outlasted hairstyles, fashion trends, and five decades of holiday cards. Our mother and father, Phyllis Ann Narby Graney and Eugene "Gene" Daniel Graney Jr, both at the age 90, passed on November 10th and September 9th, 2024, respectively, after sixty-seven years of marriage. Phyllis was born July 3, 1934, in Jamestown, NY to the late Walter Narby and Mildred Wilcox Narby. She graduated from Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA. She was a life-long schoolteacher. She enjoyed sewing. Many of us have items sewn by her. She loved to cook big dinners for family events. The kitchen was her kingdom, and she managed it with love. Greg Waitley, 55, of Vernon Hills, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 25, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Gretchen (Vorlop), and their children, Samantha and Jack; his parents, Allison and Alan Waitley; his brothers, Steven Waitley and Mike (Sally) Waitley; his in-laws, June and Fred Vorlop and Gretchen's siblings Elizabeth (Brad) Hilbelink and Fritz (Michele) Vorlop; and nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Susan J. Schrunk was born June 11, 1951 in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended The Visitation High School (1969) and the University of Northern Iowa (1973). She married John (Dave) Schrunk on May 25, 1973 and had 4 beautiful children, all raised in Dubuque. Susan was a long-standing member of the Nativity parish until relocating to Round Lake Beach, Illinois in 2011 where she found a wonderful community at The Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopalian Church. Susan was an active member of the community, preparing the many Easter Vigil receptions, coordinating the Children's Chapel program, and chairing the annual Holiday Cookie Walk. Mary Jean Hogan, 92, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. She was born on December 10, 1927 in McGregor, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Edward and Caroline Meggers. She was a graduate of the University of Iowa, receiving her bachelor's degree in Journalism, working for the school newspaper and Dubuque Telegraph Herald and was the first woman cheerleader on field at University of Notre Dame. Mary was a former resident of Glenview, IL, Denver, CO and Exeter, CA, a loving Mother and loved animals, including her cat, Tom, her dog, Spud and Klondike & Snow Bears at the Denver Zoo.
