Ida Joan Krampitz Stewart was born in upstate New York, on August 25, 1935, to Adolf and Laura Krampitz. She is predeceased by her siblings Edith Krampitz and Donald Ellison. A child of the Great Depression, Ida was orphaned at the age of eleven and raised by relatives. After high school she moved to Buffalo, NY where she modeled and worked for the NY Telephone and Telegraph Company and met her husband Tommy Dean Stewart. The couple soon married and settled in Giants Neck Beach in Niantic, Connecticut to raise their family.
