Dixie Jean Mathews Nelson, age 87, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away on February 17, 2026. She was born on September 19, 1939, in Buhl, Idaho, to (Le)Roy Elmo Mathews of Bailey, Colorado, and Velma Floressa Chriswell of Buhl, Idaho. Raised in and around Orofino, Idaho where her father worked as a lumberjack in the timber industry. When she was 13 years old, he was killed in a logging accident (1953). Dixie's life was rooted in family and the values she learned growing up in Idaho.
