Scott Blair Tarabour, a revered tuba player and veteran who was full of laughter and giving, passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2022.
Scott was born in Miami, FL on March 3, 1954. He is a graduate of the University of Miami with a Bachelor's of Music and soon after started his music career with the Miami Symphony. He toured the world playing with various artists, worked in a tuba factory in Germany, and was the life of the party with his infectious smile. In 1976, Scott joined the United States Navy, permanently attached to the Naval Academy Band as the Principal Tuba player for 20 years, where he played for five presidents, numerous celebrities, and received many accolades. He was a founding member of the International Tuba Euphonium Society (formerly the Tuba Universal Brotherhood Association). He was active throughout his life as a performer, teacher, and supporter of tuba players worldwide.
Scott was predeceased by his father Albert Tarabour. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Diane Clein Tarabour; his children Laurel LaClair Housden (Stuart), Matthew Tarabour (Elizabeth), Hilary Tarabour (Allen); his brother Elliot Tarabour (Lucy); his mother Beverly Lacks Tarabour; his grandchildren Madison Housden, Rowan Housden, Aidan Housden, Benjamin Tarabour, Allison Tarabour, Marc "Trey" Folsom III, and Caleb Folsom.
A funeral service was held at 1 PM on August 2, 2022, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Jewish-Christian Discovery Center in Marietta, Georgia. Arrangements by Dressler's Funeral Care in Atlanta, 770-451-4999.
