Sarah Frances (Cummings) Steele, 82, of Bloomington, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Timbers of Jasper in Jasper, Indiana. She was born on March 17, 1937 in Bloomington, Indiana the daughter of Adolphus and Flossie (Wampler) Cummings.
Sarah attended University High School in Bloomington, Indiana. And after high school she married James Richard Steele and raised her family. She was an artist, and she loved painting and teaching people to paint, She was a member of the International Society of Marine Painters, Sarah had an art gallery in Brown County for several years, she had solo exhibition at the Indianapolis Columbia Club in June of 2000. And she was also awarded the Jury Prize of Distinction for a painting titled "Passage" in the 68th Annual Exhibition of the Indiana Artists Club. Sarah especially loved her family and spending time with family and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Sarah is survived by her children, Lou Ann Steele of Arizona, Richard Anthony Steele and wife Ginny of Springville, Susan Patrice Steele of Ellettsville; grandchildren, Tonya Beck and husband Aaron of Loogootee, Shannon Lewis of Illinois, Stephanie Baker and husband Phillip of Chandler, Indiana, Dustin Hawkins of Bloomfield; great grandchildren, Andrea Gress and husband Chase, Tre Blanton, Andrew and Abby Lewis, Mackenzie Hagar, Madison, Jasmine, and Desiree Baker and Caleb Beck; and great-great grandson Jackson Gress, Annabelle Gress and Hazel Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James R. Steele, one son Jeffery Steele and a grandson Jonathan Henry Anderson, two sisters Jane Fern Elliott and Rhoda Jolly, and two brothers Wayne Cummings and Carrie Ray Cummings.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 7:00pm at the Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 5:00pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
