Sarah was born in London, England on June 26, 1941 to Cyril and Janet Pottinger. Cyril was a Major in the British Air Force. After WWII was over, the Pottingers moved to a small town south of London called Pulborough. Sarah attended the local school in Pulborough and graduated from high school there in May, 1959. Soon after, Sarah moved to Germany to work in a clerical position with the USAF at their base near Frankfort. Around 1966, Sarah moved to Libya to work at Wheelus Air Force Base outside of Tripoli in the Supply Section as a clerk, where she eventually met incoming Base Fuels Officer, Neil Klock, who had arrived there on July 24, 1969. By October, Neil and Sarah made plans to marry. Neil returned to the US to begin the process of retiring to her parent’s home in Pulborough. Neil retired from the USAF in late January 1970 and joined Sarah in England in February.
Neil and Sarah got married at a 900 AD church outside Pulborough on April 11, 1970. They secured passage on a 6-deck liner which took five days to cross the Atlantic Ocean and arrived at New York City. The trip continued by train from New York to New Orleans, Louisiana, and then by a 1956 2 door Chevrolet which Neil had previously shipped to Libya and then back upon his departure from there, settling in Alexandria.
Sarah’s involvements with the community were many. As Neil was an avid golfer, Sarah played tennis with the other golfer’s wives at the Rapides Golf & Country Club. Wanting to also closely support Neil’s work as a professional Engineer, Sarah joined the Ladies Auxiliary for the Alexandria Chapter of the Louisiana Engineering Society, taking part in their monthly meetings and becoming their President for one year in 1986. Around that time, she worked for about four years at Charlie Roberts business “The Source of It All” until 1987, and then another four years at Lenny Single’s business, “Pour Vous” until 1991.
Sarah continued to be involved in her community by participating in the Mystique Krewe of Rapides in 2000, and in the No Name Club of Alexandria also in 2000. Sarah loved to dance and Neil kept up with her for the Krewe Balls and the monthly No Name Club parties.
On their anniversary on April 11, 2022, Neil and Sarah had been together for 52 years of wonderful companionship and love, until a recent decline in Sarah’s health, passing away in her sleep on Thursday, July 7, 2022.
Sarah is survived by her Spouse, Neil Haven Klock, Jr., and her sister Gillian Anne Harman who lives in Pulborough England and Gillian’s three adult children, Anna Clayton, Michelle Harman, and Mark Harman, who all reside in England, United Kingdom.
