On June 18, 2019 Sarah Favinger Harrison died peacefully surrounded by family at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. She was 96 years old.
Sarah was born at North Glenwood Farm (the site of the Target in Easton) on May 21,1923, the only daughter of the late William George and Lida Mae Callahan Favinger.
Since her brothers, Nick and Joe, had so much fun participating in sports, she also wanted to play and found she excelled in basketball, field ball, and track. She graduated from Easton High School, Class of 1940. Sarah was the first Talbot County Farm Bureau Queen crowned in Oxford, MD. She furthered her education at Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware where she received the Executive Secretarial Certificate Program. Following her training, she was recruited to become a secretary for Mr. Willis at The Terminal Warehouse. She also worked as the church secretary for SS. Peter and Paul Church for several years.
She married her high school sweetheart, Norris L Harrison, SR upon his return from duty during World War II on February 10, 1945 at North Glenwood Farm with the Monsignor Joseph Irwin presiding.
Sarah was an Easton girl, who lived here all her life. She was an active member of SS Peter and Paul church, along with her husband. Together they were benefactors of the SS Peter and Paul School and Convent, hosting card parties and helping with Church dinners to build and support the School. When the cheerleaders needed a chaperone to attend an away game, Sarah hopped on the bus!
Sarah had many interests including walking to church with Norris, and all over town, visiting Ocean City for long stays during the summer, knitting ("let me finish this row"), playing cards with family, friends and clergy alike, container gardening and entertaining family ( there was always iced tea and applesauce cake if family or friends stopped by to visit). She devised an Easter Egg Hunt that all the grandchildren looked forward to with anticipation.
She was guided by three F's: Faith Family and Friends
Sarah is predeceased by her parents, William George and Lida Mae Callahan Favinger, husband, Norris L. Harrison, Sr. and son, Norris L. Harrison, Jr., brothers; William Nicholas "Nick" Favinger and his wife Doris S. Favinger and George C. "Joe" Favinger.
She is survived by her son, George "Joe" Harrison, daughters, Sally H. Mooney ( Mark) and Theresa A. Harrison, a daughter-in-law, Patricia Mavity Harrison, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, her sisters-in-law Henrietta " Chic" Harrison and Marie Favinger, and several nieces and nephews.
