She graduated from Winthrop College with a degree in Education and later completed a Master's Degree in Library Science. While there, she completed a special curriculum called Cryptologic Historians. After graduation in 1944, she was selected to be a Code Girl which was a secret group of American women that served as code breakers in Washington, D.C. during World War II.

Sara was very involved in her community and was a longtime member and volunteer of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, an active member of the Woman's Club of Rock Hill since 1988, and an active member of the Fleur-De-Lis Garden Club of Rock Hill. She was an avid bridge player and member of four different bridge groups playing every month.
Family was everything to Sara, and she enjoyed time with them and socializing with her friends. Her adoring family will treasure and miss our precious Mama Sara who loved fiercely and was loved by so many.
