Sara Alma Woodard Bentley, also known as "Nanie", age 85, of Creola, passed on to her heavenly mansion on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. She was born September 8, 1936 in Hocking County, Ohio to the late Albert James Woodard and Jennie Bell Denton Woodard. Sara was a 1954 graduate of McArthur High School. She waited until she received her high school diploma to "tie the knot" with Claude Bentley on July 3, 1954. They enjoyed sitting on the porch watching their cattle graze, and they always kissed each other every morning and night and said "I love you". Together, they reared 5 children in the family farm house since 1961. Sara was proud of her 5th generation family. All 8 of her grandchildren would get off of the school bus at what they called "Sara's Diner", where she would have their supper ready before their parents came to pick them up after work. On March 4, 2018 they lost their family farmhouse and several out buildings to a tragic fire. Sara was a homemaker who loved to farm, garden in "Sara's plantation", canning vegetables and fruits, and working in her flowers. Sara also enjoyed sewing, especially quilting, attending the McArthur Alumni, decorating graves, watching her favorite T.V. show "Wheel of Fortune", and cooking. She made each of her children a cookbook of her favorite recipes. Sara was a very religious woman and attended Prattsville Community Church. She read a chapter of the Bible every night and then called the kids to check on them before going to bed. Sara had a very giving heart; something she instilled in her children, along with strong work ethics, honesty and good family values. Sara lived a long, hard life. She always said "I am blessed". She will be missed by her family and all that knew and loved her. Until we meet again....we love you. Her greatest accomplishments were her children, that she cherished, Claude Michael Bentley (Debbie), Ruth Diane Wallar (Randy), Bonnie Sue Bentley, Roger Dean Bentley (Nicki) and Mark Ray Bentley (Lisa), along with 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and good friends, Loisene Hoy, Sylvia Randin and Carl Snyder. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Claude Bentley, who passed away on February 16, 2021; siblings, Della Snyder (John), Gracie Woodard, Marvin Woodard (Dorothy) George Woodard (Anna Mary), Albert Jr. Woodard, Fanchion Bowers (Russ), Johnny Woodard (Lois), Martha Leming (Bud), and infant sister, Flossie Roselind. Calling hours will be Friday, December 31st, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Barry Benson and Pastor Don Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Cemetery in McArthur. Pallbearers will be "Nanie's Babies".
