Sara Lee Allen

Sara Lee Allen, 91, formerly of Cumberland, died March 20, 2021 at Forestville Healthcare Center.

Sara Lee Allen was born in Moorefield, West Virginia on May 31, 1929. She was one of eight children born to Homer and Mary Turner.

At an early age she boarded a train to Chicago where she found employment as a nanny. When the family she worked for moved to New York City, she accepted their invitation to accompany them.

During a visit with her sisters in Cumberland, Maryland, she met and fell in love with Richard Allen. Sara and Richard were married in Cumberland on April 13, 1947 and one year later were blessed with their first daughter, Linda. Five years later they relocated to California, Pennsylvania where they were blessed with a second daughter, Mary Jo.

They lived in Pennsylvania until Richard's retirement. During their time in Pennsylvania, Sara was primarily a stay-at-home Mom. After her children were raised, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and worked part time as a receptionist at a senior center.

When Richard's health began to fail, they returned to Cumberland where she lived until 2014. She then moved to the Washington, DC area to be closer to her daughters. Sara is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, two daughters, one granddaughter, three great-grand-children and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

The family will have a private service with burial at MSVC-Rocky Gap.
