Santiago "Jim" Henderson Jr., 80 years of age, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 11th, 2021, surrounded by his loving family in his Raymondville, Texas home. Born on February 21st, 1941, to the late Santiago and Amparo Henderson, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margie Mae Henderson, Son Ricardo "Ricky" Henderson, and brother Rodolpho "Rudy" Henderson (Colette).
His four surviving siblings are Joel Henderson, Livia Guevara, Joe Henderson (Yesenia), and Frank Henderson (Dayra), all of Texas. He is also survived by 4 children. Marie "Riza" Wade (Scott), Robert "Bobby" Henderson, Santiago "Jaime" Henderson, Francisco "Franky" Henderson (Dana), 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. He also had many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mr. Henderson actively served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1981. In 1981, he then joined the Naval Fleet Reserves until his full retirement in 1988. Throughout his career, he acquired 4 medals, a ribbon, and several awards for exceptional conduct. He loved being a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts and coached little league for several years when his children were younger.
Before his death, he had also been a member of the Lyford Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, teaching, traveling, and spending time with family. Services are to be held on Saturday, November 20th, 2021 at Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. All are welcome to come and celebrate such a beautiful life that he lived. He is loved by many and will undoubtedly be missed by all.
Memorable contributions may be made out to Kindred Hospice of Cameron County. A private graveside service will be held in the coming days to reunite Jim and Margie with their beloved son Ricky.
