Sandy Fisher Harrison, 70, went to be with the Lord after a long battle with dementia on Friday, March 3, 2023. She passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11AM in St. James United Methodist Church, Greenville, NC. Burial will follow the service at Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday, 5-7PM, at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Sandy lived in several towns in eastern North Carolina, but resided in New Bern before establishing her home in Greenville with Darrell. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University in 1974 with a major in Elementary Education and earned her Master's in Education from ECU in 1976 with a major in Reading. She also earned a Supervision and Curriculum Certification from UNC Chapel Hill in 1978. Sandy taught in multiple schools in Greenville and loved her students dearly, always having their best interests at heart. She later taught at ECU assisting student teachers, and then worked in the private sector briefly before retiring to become a full-time mom. Sandy was the best wife and mom that her family could have ever had. She actively enjoyed and was completely supportive of all things important to Darrell and Lucas. She truly had a servant's heart for others her entire life, and especially for Darrell and Lucas. Sandy was a long-time member of St. James UMC, and was very active in Community Bible Study, assuming multiple leadership roles. She was an accomplished equestrian, owning and showing American Saddlebred horses for many years. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Dudley and Ruth Forehand Fisher; and brother, Brian Fisher. She is survived by her husband of 40 years Darrell Harrison; son, Lucas Harrison and wife, Allie of Rolesville; brother, Mike Fisher and wife, Tricia of New Bern; step-mother, Betty Fisher of New Bern; sister-in-law, Wendy Fisher of New Bern; and many nieces and nephews and their families. The family has a special thanks for all her caregivers, especially Linda and Rhonda, for their loving support and friendship for Sandy over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, a gift in memory of Sandy can be made to the Sandy F. Harrison Scholarship, c/o ECU Foundation, ECU University Advancement, 2200 S. Charles Blvd., Mail Stop 301, Greenville, NC 27858-4353.
