Mishawaka - It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Sandy Burns, 77, our loving mother, wife and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021.
Sandy was born in South Bend on November 29th, 1943 to gentle and loving parents, the late Joseph and Elizabeth Pianowski. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and Vogue Beauty School. Together almost 55 years, she married Daniel Burns at Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend on June 18th, 1966. Sandy was a faithful parishioner of St. Therese Little Flower, St. Jude and St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.
Sandy's children and grandchildren were her proudest accomplishments. They put a smile on her face whenever she thought of them. Sandy was committed to her family, making sure that they knew they were supported to achieve their highest potential. She loved to read and spend time outside in the yard and the garden. Some of our best childhood memories were curling up on the couch with her when she read her books and seeing her out working in our yard.
After raising her family Sandy volunteered at the South Bend Center for the Homeless and taught Tai Chi classes there. She was also a Eucharistic Minister and made sure that those who were unable to attend Mass received the Eucharist each week. Sandy was always there to help anyone in need, as she often did for her elderly clients if they could not come to her salon. She was a natural care giver and nurturer to all of her family and friends. All of these wonderful qualities have been passed on to her children and grandchildren, so her strength of character will live on. The legacy of Sandys kind spirit, passion for helping others and her devotion to faith will live on through them. Sandy lived a wonderful and joyful life. The footprint she leaves in our hearts is more than enough for any good life and our appreciation and love will never fade for her.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Burns, her 3 loving children Deirdre (Ron) Burkhart, Douglas (Lora) Burns, Dennis (Amanda) Burns and adoring brother Michael (Judy) Pianowski. Together with the delights of her life, 11 grandchildren: Caleb, Seth, Curran, Sydny, Connor, Campbell, Spencer, Madigan, Victoria, Duncan and Cash, we will all miss her.
A mass will be held at 4:00PM on Friday, April 16th, 2021 at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N Ironwood Rd, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00-4:00PM at the church prior to mass. A Celebration of Sandys life will be held directly afterwards at M.R. Falcons, 3212 Keller St, South Bend.
