Sandra Kay Svatek went peacefully to the Lord Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, surrounded by her family. Kay was born in Austin on Nov. 22, 1949 to Glenn and Ruby Johnson. She lived in Austin and graduated high school from Stephen F. Austin High in 1968. She met the love of her life, Larry Svatek, in 1975, and spent 47 years with her soulmate. They raised two children, Kimberly and Mark, and had two grandchildren, Christian and Emma, who were her pride and joy.
Kay was an active member of her community. She spent her life serving others, fighting for the underdog, and bringing joy to all she was around. Kay was a member of the St. Mary's ACTS community where she served on the prayer and cook teams to support women with a servant's heart and show them the love and joy of Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Fredericksburg Zonta Club and served on their board of directors. She was proud to support and uplift women in her community and around the world to better their lives and the lives of their families. She also was proud to support the children of Fredericksburg through her membership in the Optimist Club where she organized the scholarship essay and speech competitions for several years.
Kay is survived by her husband, Larry Svatek of Fredericksburg, Texas; her daughter, Kimberly Svatek of Royse City, Texas; her son, Mark Svatek and wife, Megan, of Suffolk, Virginia; two grandchildren, Christian and Emma, Suffolk, Virginia; and her brother, Ken Johnson and wife, Becky, of Blessing, Texas.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Ruby Johnson; her brother, Glenn and wife, Judie, Johnson; brother, Leland Johnson; and in-laws, Louis and Annie Svatek.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Deacon Pat Klein officiating.
Graveside services and entombment followed at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 5-7 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.
A Rosary was recited on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mary's ACTS, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, SPCA or charity of choice.
