Family matriarch with 'big personality and zest for life', 79 The six foot tall, redheaded matriarch of a large close-knit Irish Catholic & Jewish American family died in Staten Island on Saturday, June 11. Sandra Priscilla Sinclair, age 79, passed away peacefully alongside her family after a brain cancer battle that left the witty and always chatty firecracker unable to verbally communicate in her final months. Sandra was born March 26, 1943, in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada and raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn. A natural caretaker, she held many jobs over the years including driving a bus for the elderly, as a switchboard operator in Coney Island Hospital and as a manager of a nursing home, before retiring to care for her own grandchildren. Sandra was an avid reader, always found with a book in hand, she enjoyed cups of tea and loved to play scrabble. Sandra had a big personality and zest for life, infectious laugh, loved going on adventures and taking the spontaneous road trip in her red convertible. Quests often had with her grandchildren driving down Hylan Boulevard. Lovingly nick-named Grandma Sugar, she was a member of the Polar Bear Club, taking the annual plunge in the frigid waters of Coney Island well into her 70s. Sandra is survived by her siblings, Annette Ellman, Thomas Block and his wife, Maureen Block, and Sharon Ramoy and her husband, Jack Ramoy; her devoted children, Christine Sinclair-Odeh, Michael Sinclair and his wife, Marie Sinclair, Thomas Sinclair and his husband, Kenneth Organiscak, Laura Sinclair, Karen Smith and her husband, Patrick Smith, Kevin Sinclair and his wife, Kathy Sinclair, and Ian Sinclair and his wife, Kristin Sinclair, as well as her 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. All of whom she loved and touched deeply. A kind soul loved by all, Sandra will be deeply missed by her family and the many friends she cultivated over her lifetime. Visitation is on Wednesday, June 15th, from 4:00 - 8:00pm, Colonial Funeral Home, 2819 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306. Religious Services are on Thursday, June 16th, 10:15am Mass, St. Charles Church, 644 Clawson St. , Staten Island, NY 10306
