Sandra "Sandy" Hill, 81 of Fort Collins, Colorado formerly of Milford, New Hampshire passed away on November 26, 2023 in Fort Collins.
Sandy was born in Brockton, Massachusetts to H. Warren and Barbara (Shaw) Cobbett on May 8, 1942.
Sandy and her family moved to Bridgewater later where she graduated from Bridgewater High School with lifelong friends Elaine and Priscilla.
She attended Shephard-Gill School of Nursing in Boston during the days of the "Boston Strangler" receiving her License in Vocational Nursing degree in 1963. She started her 40-year nursing career at Toby Hospital in Wareham, Massachusetts where her parents had relocated to. It was here that a co-worker who was married to an Air Force Airman from near-by Otis Air Force Base hooked Sandy up with a date: A handsome Airman with a great smile, Raymond "Ray" Hill, Sr. On October 9, 1965, Sandy and Ray were married in Wareham, Massachusetts. This union gave them two children, Stephanie and Raymond Jr.
Sandy and Ray Sr. recently celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary.
After Ray's retirement from the Air Force, they were able to buy their first home. They settled and planted roots in the community in Milford, New Hampshire. Mom joined the Milford Lions and was their first female member in April 1994! She later held the position of Region Chairperson 2003-2004, Zone Chairperson 2008-2009 and Club President 2009-2010. She was also a member of the Milford American Legion transferring to Wilton Bent-Burke Unit 10 shortly after where she was Auxilliary Chaplain from May 2018-2019, May 2019-2020, May 2020-2021 & May 2021-2022. She planted and maintained the flowers under the flagpole for several years. Sandy and Ray also were Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Oval for many years at the delight of hundreds of children.
Sandy suffered a catastrophic stroke on May 1, 2023. She fought tooth and nail during the rehabilitation process. Sandy & Ray moved to Colorado to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law. Unfortunately, the damage from the stroke proved to be too much to overcome.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, brother Herbie and her beloved dog, Hope.
She is survived by her husband, Ray; her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie (Hill) & Mike Marshall Greeley, CO and son and daughter-in-law, Raymond & Cathy (Emmons) Hill Martinsburg WV. As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
We would like to thank Aspens Memory Care, Bristol Hospice and Love Care Home Care. Special thanks to Nancy Brochu who was there for mom from step 1. We couldn't have done this without her help, support and insight.
Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place at a later date at The New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.
As mom loved dogs and enjoyed seeing pictures of the wolfdogs her daughter Stephanie would send her, we ask that if you feel inclined, please make donations to your local Humane Society or to wolfsanctuary.co (this is correct .co) or rrh-project.com (Red Riding Hood Rescue Project, Ohio) in memory of Sandy Hill. The family would love it if you would share a favorite memory you have of their mom.
