Sandra C. Gess , 76 Oct 23, 1944 - Oct 2, 2021 Sandra C. Gess , 76, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the University of Maryland Hospital.
Born Monday, October 23, 1944 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late James C. Riser and the late Bettie J. (Brownell) Riser.She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Stuart Gess.
Sandy graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1962 and later from the Washington County Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. She was employed with the Washington County Hospital in the Pediatric Unit from 1965 to 1999 and finished her career at the Western Maryland Hospital retiring in November of 2009.
Sandy was a member of Crossway Christian Fellowship. Sandy loved Christian music, scrap booking, flower gardening and visiting with friends while eating some good meals. For the last four or five years she met monthly with classmates from North High class of 62 and her Nursing Class of 65. Sandy also volunteered at Potomac Heights Elementary School helping with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades from 2010 through 2013. She also volunteered at Ruth Ann Monroe Elementary School from 2013 to 2015 and Jonathan Hager Elementary School from 2018 to 2019.Sandy was also involved with the Franklin Graham Shoebox Ministries (OCC) for numerous years via Hearts of Love at TGSM, for many of those years Sandy traveled to Charlotte, NC to work for a week at the Distribution Center.
She is survived by her brother, Jimmie L. Riser of Debary, FL.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, David B. Riser.
A celebration of Sandy's life will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD with Pastor Brad Reaves officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.
