Sandra (Sandy) Howze Bryan, a wife, mother, and registered nurse, passed away Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021 at Caroline Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare. Sandra was born in San Angelo, TX to parents Herbert and Merle Howze in 1948. Both preceded her in death.
Sandy obtained her associate's degree at Jackson Memorial in Miami, FL in 1966. She continued her education in nursing and graduated with her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in 1982. Later Sandra finished her education at Seton Hall University with a master's degree in 2000.
During her 27 year career, Sandy worked in nearly every medical unit, gaining her recognition from the Governor of Maryland for her service as the President of the Maryland's Nursing Association. Just prior to retirement, Sandy had completed one of her most challenging tasks for the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health, where she oversaw the successful Magnet designation earned in 2009.
Sandra's passions included reading, cooking, travel, and in her younger days she was an avid sky diver, completing 162 jumps total. It was while skydiving that Sandy met the love of her life, Steve Bryan in 1971, whom she later married in 1972.
Sandra and Steven went on to have two boys, Matt and Jacob. She is survived by her eldest son Matt and his wife Heather of Preston, along with their two children Haley and Hunter; her youngest son, Jacob and his wife Amber of Pittsville, along with their two children Ashlynn and Asher.
Sandra's surviving family includes sister Laura Smith and her husband Bill, her sister Melanie Brown and husband Steve, and sister Stella Creelman all from the Florida region.
At this time, no service will be held but a future memorial will be scheduled to celebrate her life. In lieu of any flowers or gifts, donations in Sandra's name to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.
