Samuel "Sam" Jay Marcy, Ph.D. 84, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020 in Greeley, Colorado.
Originally of Lakeside, Nebraska, Sam was born on September 3, 1935 to Robert Sidney and Hildred Laura (Hass) Marcy. Sam attended primary school in Lakeside and graduated from high school in Alliance, Nebraska, after which he enrolled at the University of Colorado at Boulder. While at CU, he joined ROTC and became a US Army Engineer, serving his active duty in Germany. He returned to the US and worked in various engineering disciplines from civil projects to the Apollo space program.
Sam was a perpetual student and became a talented investor with a passion to support companies on the cutting edge of technology. He was always working on several projects with unique intellect that was focused on developing a solution for any problem he encountered.
In his later years, Sam became an avid dancer attending many senior dances throughout Northern Colorado with his partner, Juanita Cowan, formerly of Berthoud, Colorado.
Sam is survived by his siblings, Lyle "Doug" (Jerri) Marcy of Greeley, CO, Dewey (Jane) Marcy of Greeley, CO, and Margie (Paige) Meredith of Carbondale, CO; sister-in-law, Roisin Marcy; and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Freeman Marcy of Camarillo, CA, and an older sister, LouAnn Marcy, who died as an infant.
