Easthampton- Samuel "Sammy" Garcia Jr, age 25, a life long resident of Easthampton died on Wednesday evening at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident on Southampton Road in Holyoke.
Sam was born in Springfield on September 30, 1995 and he is the proud son of Renee F. (Mihalak) and Samuel Garcia of Easthampton. He flourished as a member of the city of Easthampton, while being educated in the Easthampton public schools and he graduated from Easthampton High School with the class of 2014. Sammy was an outstanding athlete and excelled as a proud member of the EHS Eagles, basketball and football teams and had the respect of both his coaches on and off the court and field. In return for his dedication , he was named MVP in both sports in his senior year, in his freshman year he won the coveted Super Bowl with the Easthampton Eagles football team. Sam continued his education at Elm's College, there he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and Marketing, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Sam was everyone's favorite person to see working behind the bar at the Rumbleseat Bar & Grille in Chicopee, he also worked prior at On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina in West Springfield. He was known for being a diligent hard worker. Sam was welcomed into the Penske family with open arms, working as an Assistant Rental Manager. He excelled at his job and was respected and loved by his boss' and co-workers and "his hikers". Sammy absolutely relished the past year of his life at Penske.
In his younger years of growing up in Easthampton, he participated in playing actively for Easthampton Little League, Easthampton Basketball, Easthampton Youth Football Associations. He was also a proud member of AAU Basketball Team, this was extremely special to Sammy, as it taught him a lot of the values that stuck with him beyond the court. During his senior year Sammy won the honorable Mr. Easthampton.
Sam had many interests. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, who enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics and Bruins, and following the Duke Blue Devils. Sam loved listening to music, Mac Miller and Luke Combs were his favorite playlist. He also had quite the green thumb and was an avid gardener. Sam was the center of the universe for so many. His family, his girlfriend, his friends. His loving, respectful, funny, kind nature has no equal. He will be truly missed by to many to mention. We will always be grateful for having Sam in our lives, and will always remember his beautiful, irresistible smile. He was a beacon of light, whose glow will blanket all of us the rest of our lives.
Sam leaves behind his parents; Samuel and Renee Garcia, sister; Samantha Garcia. His uncle Ronald Mihalak Jr. and his wife Svetlana. His Aunt Rhonda Mihalak and her husband Matthew Kane. His Aunt Robin Fortier and her husband Jason. His Aunt Damaris Hernandez. His cousins, Charlie Mihalak, Jason Mihalak, Felicia Hopewell and her husband Dan, Elizabeth Lombardi and her husband Rob and JJ Fortier. His Abuela Margarita, his Tio Jovi and Nany, his Tia Mayita. Sam also leaves behind his devoted girlfriend, Annie Torres and her loving family, and his two cherished Pups, Milicia and Hazelson.
Sam is predeceased by his grandparents; Ronald Mihalak Sr, Elizabeth King Mihalak and his abuelo Samuel Garcia, his cousins, Nicky Liqouri Jr and Papote Garcia and his beloved sister Lexie Garcia, who he doesn't have to miss anymore because they are together now.
Calling hours for Sammy, will be held on Tuesday December 22, 2020 at the Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 33 Adams Street in Easthampton from 2pm - 6pm with a concluding prayer service. All other services will be private. A reminded that face masks must be worn and social distancing must be maintained at all times, this will be a walk through wake service.
