Samuel Craig "Tip" Carnes Jr., was born June 7, 1937 to Judge S. Craig and Hilda Knowlton Carnes in Cambridge, Ohio. He died on July 17, 2021.
He was a 1955 graduate of Cambridge High School and he attended Kent State University and Muskingum College. He retired from Kenworth Truck Company in Chillicothe, Ohio.
Sam is survived by his wife, Diane Carnes; son, Kim (Jan) Carnes; daughters, Tina Kelsey, Candy (Bob) Webb and stepdaughter, Beth (Joe) Motes; six grandchildren, Dagan Carnes, Alicia Hanners, Ben (Carmen) Carnes, Lucas (Karyn) Carnes, Samuel T. (Caitlin) Carnes, Micah (Jeff) Aloisio, and Jordan (Steve) Hensley; eight great-grandchildren, Lilly, Hunter, Blakely and Ellis Carnes, Austin, Luke and Mia Hanners, and Pypar Ledford; and one great-great-grandson, Radley Hanners.
Sam was preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother, David Carnes; a stepdaughter, Nancy Clark; and a stepgrandson, Brad Hanners.
Sam was a man who enjoyed life no matter what his circumstances and he always tried to make people laugh. His relationships with friends lasted through thick and thin and the family is grateful for two of his lifelong friends who were always there for him - John Eynon and David Roscoe.
Sam was an avid sports fan but especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. His desire was to be cremated and to be buried with a Buckeye tree planted there. The family is honoring his request.
Sam invited Jesus into his heart in 1973 and knowing that he is now in Heaven gives peace to his family.
No calling hours will be observed. No funeral services will be held at this time.
