Samuel Grant McPherson, Jr. (Sam) passed peacefully away at his home in Llano, Texas in the
pre-dawn hour of August 15, 2022. Sam was attended by his wife, Jeannette Goble McPherson
and their daughter-in-law Jenny Hawthorne McPherson at the time of his passing.
Sam was born in Llano July 14, 1938, to Samuel Grant McPherson and Ruby Mozelle Cooper
McPherson, delivered by mid-wife Susan Merkle.
Sam joined the armed forces at an early age and proudly served in several branches of the
military. At the time of his retirement, after a career of 30+ years, he was a Master Sergeant in
the Army. Not only did he have a long, successful, well decorated career in the military, he was
also a master mechanic and won several awards from Ford Motor Company.
After many years in Fort Worth, h returned to Llano in 1971. At that time he entered into a
new business with his brother, Mike and his brother-in-law, Eddie Overstreet, when they
opened M & O Auto repair with Mike and Eddie handling the auto body business and Sam doing
all the mechanical repair. They remained in business for several years, serving many
throughout Llano County.
He was a hard-working man, but he also enjoyed his leisure time. He was an avid hunter and
especially loved hunting white tailed deer. Most every weekend during deer season he could be
found at deer camp with his brothers, sons, and nephews. Before arthritis limited his ability to
play, he could pick guitar and sing with the best of them and evenings beside the campfire were
always entertaining.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Bette Jo, brothers Billy Wayne, John Earl,
Willis Ray (Rusty), and Michael Lee, stepson David Earl Logan, stepdaughter Tina Sue Arms and
son-in-law Brett Goodson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Jeannette McPherson, brother Emmitt Jackson
(Jack) McPherson, sister Sandra McPherson Overstreet (husband Edwin), children Jana
McPherson Cluck (husband Steve), Lori McPherson Goodson, Kevin McPherson (wife Jenny),
Sally Hernandez (husband Ted), James McPherson, James Lee Owens, Wesley Lucas, twenty-
one grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and
