Ryan James C. Hamilos, age 53, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Washington, DC, died peacefully at home on 22 January 2023.
Ryan led an exceptionally dynamic and well-rounded life, which rendered him a unique capability to immediately establish a genuine rapport with others.
Born and raised in the Greek Orthodox community in Baltimore, Ryan was a 1988 graduate of St. Paul's School for Boys. He spent his early professional years working with MP Industrial Coatings, his father's industrial painting business, where he learned a strong work ethic and was exposed to a wide range of American subcultures up and down the East coast. In the 1990s, Ryan spent several years in Barbados, where he combined his corporate expertise with his passion for mountain biking by establishing an ecotourism company, a novel business model at the time.
In the following decade, Ryan pivoted to New York, where he learned the burgeoning trade of digital advertising. He then returned to Baltimore in 2013, where he met his husband, and started his own digital ad agency. In 2017, Ryan moved to DC, quickly establishing an expansive network, and parlaying his influence towards the development of foreign market opportunities for a pharmaceutical company based in Fort Lauderdale.
Ryan's legacy is best defined by his lifelong practice of Greek "philotimo", and his fearless ability to take risks and embrace failure as an opportunity to grow. He was notably well-regarded for his exquisite sense of style and was without question the best dressed gentleman in any room he entered. Above all, Ryan will be remembered for his kindness and unconditional charity for all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ryan is survived by his devoted husband, Ben Robboy, father James C. Hamilos, sister Elisa Ghinger, brother Christopher Hamilos, brother-in-law Drew Curlett, brother and sister-in-law Chad and Christina Curlett, along with nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and godchildren. He is predeceased by his mother, Peggy Ann Ryan.
A Memorial Service will be held at Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation on Friday, 27 January, at 1100. Interment will follow at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Baltimore, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Make-a-Wish Mid-Atlantic.
