Ruth Marie Horsch-Nusbaum, age 68, of Walkersville, MD passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Born June 21, 1953 in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of Vera Pemberton Horsch of Linden, NJ and the late Ralph Monroe Horsch Sr.
Ruth studied music at Union College and resumed her education to become a social worker at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. As a licensed social worker, she spent half of her career helping children and transitioned into assisting veterans at the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. She was an extremely giving person, as evident in spending her entire career helping others.
Her favorite times were spent with her three grandchildren and on the Potomac River. She also enjoyed anything arts and crafts, going to wineries and spending time at the beach and ocean.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her children, Laura Lee Joiner and husband Jeremy of Walkersville and Kenneth Edward Nusbaum and wife Amanda of Martinsburg; three grandchildren who she adored, Hunter, Lilly and Mason; sisters, Doris Chase of Valrico, FL and Kathie Horsch of Linden; sister-in-law, Paula Horsch of Linden; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ruth greatly missed her son, Daniel Christopher Nusbaum, who predeceased her in 2018. She was also predeceased by her brother, Ralph M. Horsch Jr. in 2014.
Ruth's family would like to thank her close friends for their unwavering support: Topper and Cathy Nusbaum, Linda Grisez, Laura Rhoderick, Ellie Parker Sapia and Margaret Nusbaum.
The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro on Wednesday, March 30 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m. with VA Chaplain Christina Brook-Signo officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to any local hospice program.
