Ruth Pittman Lanier, age 95, was born on May 26, 1928, in Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully in the same cherished community on February 19, 2024. She lived a fulfilling life, infused with grace and kindness, encapsulating the essence of a true Southern lady. As a devoted lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Ruth dedicated much of her time to her faith and church family.
Not only was Ruth esteemed for her selfless nature, but she was also profoundly loved for her mastery in sewing and cooking, with her banana pudding becoming a legendary treat. Her home was a haven of warmth and generosity, always open to friends, family, and anyone in need. Ruth was the epitome of thoughtfulness and love, impacting everyone she met with her caring spirit. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert "Buddy" and Emma Pittman; and sisters, Jean Haun and Betty Green. Survivors include her children, Janice Fuller (Ben), Kenneth Lanier (Sonya), Doug Lanier (Glenda), Stanley Lanier and Anne Cross (Wayne); grandchildren, Corey Lanier (Brenda), Trent Fuller (Ana), Beth Jones (David), Kenya Lanier, Alesha Parsons (Josh), Tara Davis (Dennis), Justin Lanier, Chad Lanier (Amber), Emily Hornsby (Bobby), Brittany Lanier, Lori Smola (Dave), and Caleb Cross (Alisha); nineteen great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Christian Church with Pastor Kasey Kuyper officiating. Internment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sosebee Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 20th from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Wednesday, February 21st from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Corey Lanier, Dennis Davis, Josh Parsons, Caleb Cross, Dave Smola, Chad Lanier, Chance Lanier, Chandler Lanier, and Christian Lanier. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jackson Lanier, Austin Lanier, Noah Parsons, Garrett Parsons, Bobby Hornsby, Mack Hornsby, Xander Davis and Brayden Lanier.
