Ruth Theresia Kiefer, 81, of Charlotte, died on July 11, 2018 in the care of Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care after a courageous battle with lung cancer that began in 2010. She was born February 11, 1937 in Wadersloh, Germany to the late Norbert and Anna Weckermann, nee von Nahmen. She immigrated to North America in 1957 where she eventually made her way from Canada to the US. Ruth worked most of her career as an executive assistant at Hoechst-Celanese and JA Jones Construction/Philip Holzmann USA. She was exceedingly neat and clean, as Germans are often known to be, loved her Schnauzers and was sure that family and friends always had plenty to eat. She was a sports fanatic, who loved to watch golf, football, baseball, and eventually, college rugby.
Mrs. Kiefer is survived by her children: Kathryn Coyle and sons, Torsten and Jack; Christa Matthews and husband, Chris, and their children, Corey and Caitlin; Sally Dickson and husband, Mike; Peggy Kiefer; David Kiefer and his children: Aaron and his wife Casey, Matthew, Lydia, and Hannah; and Paul Kiefer. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Brigitte Jemella; nephews, Kai and Carsten; and nieces, Elizabeth and Ute, all of Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Kiefer.
The interment service will be private, but the family welcomes her friends to a celebration of her life to be held at the Beverly Crest Community Clubhouse at 6:30 on July 26th, 2018.
