Ruth G. Justmann, age 87 of Watertown, passed away at her home at Spero Heritage Homes with her family by her side.
Ruth Gertrude Liechty was born July 19,1936 at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Brunner) Liechty. She attended grade school at Zion Lutheran in Clyman and graduated from Hustisford High School. On June 16, 1956 she married Jerome A. Justmann at St John the Baptist Rectory in Clyman.
They resided in Watertown where she was employed at Bickett Rubber and also Brandt Automatic Cashier. In 1963 they moved to Colorado where she worked for the Dixson Company. In 1968 they moved to Markesan where she was employed at Ahrens Implement and then for the family business Justmann Refrigeration and Excavation. Jerome and Ruth retired from the family business in 2006. In October of 2021 she returned to Watertown residing at Spero Heritage Homes.
Ruthie was a lifetime member of the Markesan Historical Society and had worked for many elections for the town of Mackford. She was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan. Her favorite hobby was collecting old bottles, many of which her nephews dug up for her. She enjoyed gardening and made the best home-made pizza and baked goods!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome on September 30, 2014.
She is survived by her brother, John (Jane) Liechty of Watertown, sisters, Dorothy Berger of Waukesha and Helen Rose of Watertown; sister-in-law, Lorraine Justmann of Markesan; brother- and sister-in-law, John (Frances) Justmann for Fruita, CO; and further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; father- and mother-in-law, Arthur and Elsa Justmann; sister, Betty Arends; sisters-in-law, Joan Liechty, Mary Justmann, Evelyn Metz, and Elaine Klecker; brothers-in-law, Fritz Arends, Karl Berger, Lester Rose, Dennis Justmann, Clark Justmann, Conrad Metz, and Harold Klecker.
If desired, memorials in Ruth's name may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church in Markesan or to the Markesan Historical Society.
Visitation for Ruth will take place on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 65 West Catherine St., Markesan from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Meier officiating. Burial will take place at Phelps Cemetery.
