Ruth Leoan Huckleberry, 92, of Berryville, Virginia, died peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at her home.
Mrs. Huckleberry was born July 30, 1928 in Leesburg, Virginia, daughter of the late Dolph Noah Cunningham and Marjorie Elliott Cunningham. She spent her youth in Ashburn, Virginia and had a special fondness for days spent at her grandfather's farm near Waxpool, Virginia.
She married Lewis E. Jenkins in February 1946. As a military spouse, she traveled to and raised her family in Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Bad Wiessee, Germany; Fort Meyer, Virginia; Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
She married the love of her life Don G. Huckleberry on December 21, 1972 in Leesburg, Virginia. Don preceded her in death on April 10, 2011.
Throughout her life, Ruth was a great many things. She was a homemaker, enjoyed working for the Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging, and carried a real estate license. She was a devoted observer and lover of the natural world with a special fondness for plants and birds, an avid reader, a world-traveler, a classical music fan, an artist, a self-taught architect who designed her own home, a progressive political thinker, a life-long student, a staunch believer in the Golden Rule with a great curiosity of the world and the people in it, and the matriarch of our family. She was a constant source of strength, joy, and inspiration to her family.
Ruth is survived by a sister, Jane Eubank Mackie; two daughters, Ruth Jacklyn Jenkins Wolfinger, and Jennifer Ann Jenkins; a son, David Lewis Jenkins and his wife, Kelly; her grandchildren, Jerome Lindsey, Roy Wolfinger, Molly Randall, Kendall Jenkins, and Emma Jenkins; and her six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughters, Rebecca Lew Jenkins and Sarah (Sally) Jane Jenkins Lindsey; brothers, Lawrence, Franklin, Milton, and Herbert Cunningham; and a sister, Thelma Howser.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, April 6, 2021 in Ebenezer Cemetery, Loudoun County, Virginia.
