It is with profound sadness that we announce that our beloved mother, Ruth Zarate Favila, died peacefully on January 30, 2023, at her home in Santa Paula, CA. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 29, 1931, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, Ruth attended schools and college in Mexico. In 1961, she married Alfonso Martinez Favila and settled in Santa Paula. After raising five children, they traveled throughout California, Mexico and Spain. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose bright and uplifting spirit was a true inspiration to all who had the good fortune to know her. Beautiful and loving, she created a warm and thriving home for her family and friends.
Ruth was a stay-at-home mom until all of her children were school aged. She was also "mom" to all the children of Laurie Lane. She worked as a bilingual Instructional Assistant for the Santa Paula School District in many different settings. She was also a Religious Education teacher for Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, where she was a member for over 40 years. Ruth was also an accomplished self-taught seamstress. Ruth's talents were impressive! She once collaborated on making vests for the entire Isbell Middle School band! At Guadalupe Church, she was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Guadalupanas and a dedicated parishioner. Ruth was equally skilled in the kitchen. Although health issues slowed her down, she continued to embroider up to her final months. As you can imagine, the energy that she demonstrated kept her entire family on its toes! To us, she was unstoppable! Unfortunately, even warriors need their rest.
Ruth is survived and will be dearly missed by her son, Rene Favila; daughters Sandy Seekins (David Seekins), Norma Favila, and Marisela Favila (Angel De La Trinidad); grandchildren: Tirzah Racicot (Ryan), Omar and Emilio Uribe, Ryon Seekins, Iliana and Cesar Alfonso De La Trinidad. She is also survived by a very large and loving extended family. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Alfonso M. Favila and her son, Alfonso Favila, Jr.
We would like to thank Buena Vista Hospice, Dr. Gary Deutsch, and caregiver Juanita Cortez. A big thank you to Liz Delgado for your patience and assistance.
Rosary services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 a.m. and will be presided over by Father Christopher Reeve, C.R.I.C.
