Ruth Cody Demers passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 27th, 2021 at the age of 81 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born in 1940 in Brockton, Massachusetts into a large Irish family, Ruth graduated from Avon High school and went on to earn a degree in teaching from Bridgewater State University. While in high school she worked at Gowell's Candy, where she met her future husband in 1957. The two were later married in 1962 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Avon.
After years of medical school and residency, they settled in Baltimore, Maryland in 1969. Eventually, the now family of four, relocated to Fayetteville, NC and then onto Knoxville, Tennessee in 1982, where they became active members of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Demers; father, William Cody; mother, Anna Cody; and brother, William "Billy" Cody.
She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Demers Mortinsen of Murfreesboro, TN and Theresa Demers Haralson (Matthew Haralson) of Alcoa, TN. She was a proud grandmother of Megan, Weston, Ethan and Evan.
Services were held December 3 and 4 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
