Ruth Esther Brainerd Clements passed away peacefully at the Margaret Pratt Community in Bradford, Vermont on July 30, 2022. She was almost 92 years old. Ruth was born September 15, 1930, the daughter of Florence Martin Brainerd and Leon Brainerd in East Corinth, Vermont and grew up on the family farm on Taplin Hill and attended the Taplin Hill School. She graduated from Bradford Academy in 1948. After graduation she worked at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, New Hampshire in the records department. After meeting and marrying Allen Clements, they lived in Norwich, Vermont until moving to Bradford where they raised their six children. Over the years Ruth did the book keeping for Allen's business and headed up the Fresh Air Program which found homes for inner city children in the country during the summer months. Then In later years she was a hostess at a local restaurant and owned her own woman's clothing store. Even later in her life, she did typing for Behind the Times and was a receptionist for Attorney Rick Cawley until she retired at age 82. Ruth enjoyed traveling, going to Arizona, Utah, and Colorado to visit her children who lived there. She also journeyed to China when she was 70 years old to visit her son Scott. She belonged to the Bradford Congregational Church singing in the choir for many years, and was a member of Eastern Star. Ruth did the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper right up until she died. She was predeceased by her parents, and four siblings and their spouses - Eleanor Brainerd Martin and Willard, Percy Charles Brainerd and Muriel, Harry Brainerd, and Louise Brainerd Thompson and Kenneth. Ruth is survived by her six children and their spouses: Vicky Clements Bailey and Fred of Lancaster, New Hampshire, Scott Clements and Liu Fang of Bradenton, Florida, Mark Clements and Cynthia of Bethlehem, New Hampshire, David Clements and Donna of Bradford, Shelly Clements Blodgett and Putnam ('Boo') of Bradford, and Michelle Clements Prososki and Greg of Pleasant Grove, Utah, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Joan Brainerd, her cousin Patricia Damiano of Meridian, Connecticut, and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be a private family event in the Upper Plains Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday, August 6th at 2:00PM at Hale Funeral Home in Bradford.
