Russell A. Steele, 73, of Bremen was born on July 30, 1948 in Holmesville, NE to Marvin and Lucille (Forsyth) Steele. He attended school in Holmesville and the University of Nebraska, then began two years of volunteer service at the Brethren Service Center in Nappanee, IN. During that time, he met his wife, Judy (Ressler) whom he married on September 20, 1969 in the Turkey Creek Church of the Brethren. Russell was a life-long farmer, raising crops and livestock while being involved in numerous activities. He spent many years and countless hours working with the Marshall County 4-H, serving on the fair board and as swine barn superintendent. He served on the Marshall County Extension Board and in 2004 received the Friend of Extension award. He was a member of the Bremen Board of School Trustees, was involved in Marshall Co. Pork Producers, Marshall Co. Young Farmers, and the Bremen Church of the Brethren, making multiple mission trips to Puerto Rico. He prepared taxes many years for Anderson and Co. He retired from farming in 2020 and enjoyed attending sales and auctions collecting agricultural related antiques. Russell departed this life on January 4, 2022 leaving behind his wife, Judy; sons, Phillip of Goshen, Matthew (Amanda) of New Paris, Kenan (Janna) of Bremen; daughter, Arlana (Brad) Garrard of Wakarusa; five grandchildren, Madisyn, Makenna, Nolan, Trystan and Sawyer Steele, three step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; his mother, Lucille Steele of Holmesville, NE, two brothers Ross Steele and Joe Steele of NE; three sisters, Mary Frazier, HI; Lavina Wall, KS and Amy Cox, OK. A time of remembrance and reflection will be held from 2:00-6:00 pm, Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St Rd 331, Bremen.
