Russell D. "Russ" Lowe, age 87, of Milbank, SD, formerly of South Shore, SD, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at a care center in Milbank. Private family funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Pastor Ken Nelson will officiate. This will be Live-Streamed on our website.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Russ was born on February 9, 1933, to James and Viona (Hansen) Lowe, in rural Twin Brooks, SD. After graduating from Milbank High School in 1951, Russ entered the U.S. Army. Following his Honorable Discharge, Russ worked at the creamery in South Shore, where he met Ruth Waege. Russ and Ruth were married in 1957 and the couple bought their current farm, where he has farmed all of his life. Ruth preceded Russ in death in 2011.
In April of 2014, Russ was united in marriage to Viola Ward and the couple made their home in Milbank. Russ was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in South Shore, where he held many offices in church. He was also a member of PCA and sat on the Board of Directors. Russ enjoyed trapping, hunting and ice fishing. He loved his farm and his cows, along with watching and playing baseball.
Russ is survived by his wife, Viola of Milbank, SD; his children, Lonnie (Masha) Lowe of South Shore, SD and Connie (Michael) Mayorga of Burnsville, MN; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; Viola's family; one brother, Robert (Frances) Lowe of Twin Brooks, SD; and one sister, Verna Sparks of Yankton, SD.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; one son, Bradley; his parents; one brother, Jim and one sister, Darlene.
