Quechee, VT - Russell O. Collins, 90, died Monday July 15, 2024, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor, VT.
Russell was born January 15, 1934, in Hanover, NH, a son of Robert and Clara (Hall) Collins. Russell attended schools in Quechee and Hartford before serving two stints in the US Air Force from 1951-1955 and again from 1957 until 1961. He was married to Ann Church July 18, 1959, and they lived in Montana while Russell served in the Air Force. Following his discharge, they returned to Quechee and made their home at his family's homestead where they raised their children and have lived since.
After Russell returned from the Air Force he worked for a time at T&L Electric in White River Jct. before beginning a 34-year career at Cone Blanchard Machine Tool in Windsor as an electrician.
Russell enjoyed gardening and puttering in his workshop on woodworking projects. He and Ann also enjoyed square dancing as a member of the Junction Trotters in White River Jct. and the Sugar House Swingers in Woodstock. They took many trips in their camper with the Mid-State Sam club. He was also a member of the American Legion in White River Jct.
He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-three years, Ann, in 2021 as well as three brothers, George, Lester, and Roland Collins.
Russell leaves his daughter, Juanita Berger and son, Lannie Collins both of Quechee, three grandchildren, Jessica, John and Jolene; seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Wednesday July 24 from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Greater Hartford Church of Christ Thursday July 25th at 10AM with burial following in the Hilltop Cemetery in Quechee.
