Mrs. Rubye Cox Pittman, age 87, of Lakeside Drive, Milledgeville, died Wednesday, May 27, 2020 following a brief illness. A graveside funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 4:00 p.m. in the Davisboro Cemetery in Davisboro with Reverend Mac Enfinger and Reverend Dr. Jay Hodges officiating. The Pittman family will receive friend also on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
Rubye Cox Pittman was a native of Washington County, growing up on the family farm there and was a graduate of Sandersville High School. She later attended Georgia College and graduated from the School of Business. She also was certified as a Church Business Administrator at Emory University through the United Methodist Church and served for over thirty years on the staffs of Sandersville United Methodist Church in Sandersville, First Baptist Church in Milledgeville and First United Methodist Church in Milledgeville where she retired in 2006. She loved serving the members of these churches through her years in this profession and she especially loved serving her Lord in this way.
Rubye was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church. She was past president of the King Sunday School Class, an active member of the United Methodist Women and the Norris/Hicks Circle and served as a district officer for her UMW Unit. She was an active member of the Carrington Woods Garden Club and was a committee chair for many years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. Thomas H. Cox, Jr. and Mrs. Cynthia Adelle Brown Cox; her son, David Wesley Pittman; her sister, Cynthia Brown Cox Garrett and her husband, James Garrett; her brother, Joseph Thomas Cox and his wife Jean Mooney Cox; and her niece Bonnie Garrett Myers. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-nine years, Haywood Wesley Pittman, Jr.; son, Drew Thomas Pittman and his wife, Anita Avant Pittman; daughter, Cynthia DelRey Pittman Cox; and daughter-in-law, Debi Lastinger. BeMom is also survived by grandsons, Bradley Ryan Pittman and his wife, Krystal; John Wesley Pittman; and Tommy Pittman; and great grandsons, Jackson Daniel Pittman and Paxton Luke Pittman. Aunt Rubye is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jimmy Garrett, Jill Garrett Nettles, Joey Cox, Carol Sue Cox Fikes, David Cox and Danny Cox.
Mrs. Rubye loved giving to others especially children. She enjoyed giving to St. Jude's Hospital and the United Methodist Children Home in Macon as well to River of Life at First United Methodist Church in Milledgeville and Greater Milledgeville Young Life.
