Ruby Jean (St. Hillier) Greenwell passed away peacefully, at age 93, at home and surrounded by her family on March 27, 2021. She was born in Evansville, Indiana on Christmas Day, December 25, 1927 to Pauline Jean (Scherer) St. Hillier and her father was Harold Eldred St. Hillier. She graduated from Evansville Central High School. She married John Robert (Bob) Greenwell March 1, 1946. Ruby grew up an only child and was very close to her cousins. Her greatest legacy was the family she and Bob created. They were blessed with six children, Martha Writt, David Greenwell (Sandy), James Greenwell, Paula Bergman (Steve), Debra Smith (Hollis) and Gina Fornefeld (Greg). She had 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Including spouses and significant others, the family currently totals 77 people. Her whole family and all of their friends loved her dearly. After their third child was born, they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a babysitter for 53 children while raising her own and all of these children and their parents loved her as well. To quote her granddaughter Amy Meyerrose, "She was humble and wise, funny & caring, strong & sensitive and everyone has thrived in her example of loving her husband and family and wanting to be surrounded by all of us!" Her hobbies included collecting giraffes, crafting, embroidery, puzzles, hearts game, camping and her dogs. She was an adventurous soul who loved to travel, especially to places near the ocean with her family. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son James Greenwell and her grandsons Ryan Writt and Darrin Greenwell. Celebration of her life will be held at Singleton & Herr Mortuary on Saturday, April 3, 2021, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a short service beginning at noon.
