Roy Scott Stephenson, Sr., age 81, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.
Roy was born October 4, 1940 to the late Claude and Gladys Stephenson of Rich Valley. Roy was an avid Virginia Tech fan and Alumni (class of 63). After receiving his accounting degree, Roy went on to serve in the United States Army for a total of 7 years as a Lt. After the military, Roy come back to settle down in Rich Valley. Roy worked numerous public service jobs until 1977, and then he started in to the cattle business full time. Along with his parents, Roy is preceded in death by his brothers; Peery and Robert Stephenson; and sister, Peggy Stephenson.
Roy married his lifelong best friend, Shelby Jean Tolbert in January, 1964. Roy welcomed three children; Xan Buchanan (John Lee), Scotty Stephenson (Vickie), and Chip Stephenson (Krystal). Along with his children, Roy had four grandchildren; Payton (Kala & Lily), Karleigh (Mason), Perry and Clayton. Roy is survived by his sister; Sandra Long (Milt).
Roy was a long-term member of Locust Cove Presbyterian Church. Roy and the family would like to ask in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to his church or local youth bible school. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Ridgedale Cemetery with Rev. Scott Spence and Pastor Michael Klump officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery. Charlie Smith, Curty Smith, Perry Stephenson, Clayton Buchanan, Matt Frye, and Mason Akers will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Walker, David "Mac" Buchanan, Johnny Maloyed, Ray DeBord, Brad Carter, Charles Lamie, and Junior Bryant.
