Roy "Grampy" Erwin Nixon, 90, of Newbury, MA, died May 23, 2021.
Born in Tarrytown, NY on November 17, 1930, he was the son of Fredrick and Isabella (McKnight) Nixon. Roy resided in Bedford, NH, Vero Beach, FL, and Newbury, MA for many years.
During the Korean War, he served with the United States Army. He was also a Merchant Marine.
Roy successfully owned and operated NiXon Auto Sales. Later, he was a deputy sheriff with the Hillsborough County Sheriff Office.
Roy was a Freemason at the Masonic Temple Washington Lodge 61, Manchester for sixty-five years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #39, Vero Beach, FL.
Roy was a loving and devoted father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend. An avid outdoorsman, Roy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the duck camp, racing cars for the SCCA Circuit, flying planes, boating, hunting, and fishing on the marshes in Newbury, MA. He was proud of his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching Corey and Cody race motocross. Roy was proud of his Irish heritage, and loved to play his guitar, singing Irish songs and reciting poetry. He was fond of animals. He enjoyed outings to the flea market and collecting antiques. One of his favorite pastimes was watching the sunset. A quote from the silver fox himself, "My mother always said, never grow old."
He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Mae (Dennis) Nixon; a daughter, Shawn Thomas; and a brother, Fredrick Nixon; and two nephews, Joe and Johnny Nixon.
Family members include two sons, Dennis and Michael Nixon; a daughter-in-law, Maria Nixon; grandchildren, Corey and Cody Nixon, and Rachel, Nathaniel, and Seth Thomas; and a niece, Kathy Nixon.
Services: A calling hour will be held Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 10 to 11 AM at Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH. A service will follow in the funeral home at 11 AM.
Burial with military honors will proceed in Long Meadow Cemetery, Auburn, NH.
