Roy Jack Nicar passed on July 25, 2020 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Jack, as his family and friends called him, was born in Cleveland, Texas, on November 21, 1927.
Jack was an avid golfer, angler, and bridge player. He loved the outdoors and even in the last week of his life worked in his yard. He was a famously apt baker, making lemon meringue pies, fudge pies, and lemon-blueberry bread with lemons grown in his own yard. He often volunteered locally to barbecue and fry fish for charities and neighbors. Jack was a prankster and storyteller. He often warned his family that if he ever disappeared just know that he was in Austin picking up his lottery winnings and that he would call from Vegas when he got around to it.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Fuller Nicar, of Silsbee, Texas. He is survived by three sons, Michael Jack Nicar, James Thomas Nicar, and Tracey McNeil Nicar, and one daughter, Nancy Nicar Dickinson from his first wife Peggy McNeil Nicar of Rockdale, Texas. He loved his step-children Randy and Debra Fuller and step-daughter Kathy Broussard. He was much beloved by his 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Jack worked most of his life for the telephone company, starting as a janitor, moving to a lineman, wire chief, and finally retiring as a second-line supervisor, and he was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a young man. He lived a full, happy life. He worked hard, took care of his kids, and teased and pulled pranks until his last days. His family loves and misses him and will forever be inspired by him. If you were a friend of Jack's, his family encourages you to remember him today with a good story. He was a fan of good stories.
Services for Jack will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Silsbee Christian Care Center or the First United Methodist Church of Silsbee.
