Retired Army Master Sgt. Roy Earl Madden, age 94, formerly of Somerset, passed away on April 9, 2024 at his daughter's home in Stanford.
He was born on August 8, 1929 in West Union, S.C. to James Noah Madden and Ola Volrath Madden. He was a twenty-one year veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard, VFW Post #269 in Somerset, Sievers Lodge in Nancy and 32nd Scottish Rite. For 10 years, Roy was a volunteer driver for the Disabled American Veterans, helping serve his fellow veterans.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Bill) Holtzclaw of Stanford and Mary Madden (Bud) Garrison of Lawrenceburg, KY; two grandchildren, Chris (Allison) Holtzclaw and Jamie Garrison; and one great grandson, Jacob Holtzclaw.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Lewis Madden, whom he married on May 16, 1953 in Hyden, KY and she preceded him on August 2, 2001; three sisters; and ten brothers.
A committal service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11:00am at Mill Springs National Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
