Roy James Ellison, III, 68, of Kennesaw, Georgia died on October 24, 2022. Roy was born in Durham, North Carolina to Dr. Roy James Ellison, Jr., and Martha Holroyd Ellison. He lived most of his life in his hometown of Greenville, South Carolina. He served honorably in the United States Army with the 2D BN, 75th Ranger Regiment, achieving the rank of Sergeant and earning the Special Operations Command designation of Airborne Ranger.
Roy attended Winthrop University and Clemson University, earning degrees in business and education. He earned nicknames such as "The Professor" and "The Encyclopedia" because of his vast knowledge of any subject and willingness to share his incredible wealth of information.
Roy enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, landscaping, building, and home improvement projects. Above all else, Roy's passion was enjoying his family. He placed family above all other priorities in life and passed this central value down to his children.
Roy is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rhonda Minter Ellison; his three children - Elizabeth Ellison Baker (Cole), Dr. Laura Kathryn Ellison Call (Matthew), and Andrew Christian Ellison; seven siblings - Kathryn Ellison Coker (Tony), Marianne Ellison Melin (Ron), Kent Holroyd Ellison (Meshell), Mark Stribling Ellison, Melissa Ellison Cauthen (Buck), Michael Joseph Ellison (Karie), and Robyn Jennifer Ellison; and his stepmother, Diane Ellison.
A funeral service commemorating Roy's life will be held Friday, November 18, 2022, at 2:00 PM at St. Teresa's Episcopal Church in Acworth, Georgia. The family will receive guests following the service at a reception hosted by the church.
