Rosella 'Rose' Carson (nee DiDomenico), 94, of Haddon Township, NJ, formerly of Audubon, NJ, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, June 24, 2022.
Rose was born in Camden, NJ to John and Florence DiDomenico on January 21, 1928, the sixth of eight children. Affectionately known as 'Rock' among her classmates, Rose was a stand-out field hockey and basketball player in both the Collingswood and Audubon school districts and graduated from Audubon High School in 1945.
After graduation Rose continued to play field hockey in women's leagues throughout the Philadelphia and South Jersey areas and enjoyed bowling with the St. Rose of Lima league well into her adult life. She entered the workforce, first at Audubon National Bank, and then at NJ Bell Telephone (aka Verizon) as a customer service representative. Known as 'Rosie' by her colleagues, she accumulated lifelong friendships at NJ Bell where she retired in 1990 after thirty-seven years of service.
After retiring from NJ Bell, Rose worked at the Division of Motor Vehicle for 15 years, during which she battled and beat breast cancer at the age of 66. She championed finding a cure for the disease by participating in numerous Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure events after her recovery. When not working, Rose enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, watching Philly sports teams, doing crossword puzzles, and attending church.
Rose is survived by her three beloved children, Bret (Erica) Carson of Norfolk, VA, Bruce (Virginia) Carson of Moorestown, NJ and Joanne (Bill) Narleski of Basking Ridge, NJ; her nine precious grandchildren, Dana (AJ), Erin and Kelly Carson, originally of Newport News, VA; Benjamin, Paul and Olivia Carson, originally of Moorestown, NJ; and Jaclyn, Julie and Jenna Narleski of Basking Ridge, NJ. Rose cherished time with her children and grandchildren, cheering for them during sporting events and extracurricular activities, applauding their academic successes, and celebrating their every achievement throughout their lives.
Rose is also survived by her devoted sisters, Nora Bailey of Haddon Heights, NJ and Cecelia (Gary) Morrison of Haddon Township, NJ, as well as a large, loving extended family of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother John DiDomenico, and her sisters Victoria McKinney, Florence Sleeper, Gloria DiDomenico, and Anita Conroy. Throughout her long life, Rose treasured family gatherings, where she was known to provide her notorious humor as well as enjoy lots of laughter.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with family on Friday, July 1st from 10:30 to 11:15 AM, and then to celebrate Rose's life at a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:15 AM; both gatherings to be held at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. Johns Church, 809 Park Avenue, Collingswood, NJ. Interment Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose's memory to the Susan G. Komen organization at www.komen.org.
