Mrs. Rose Marie Nowakowski DeArment, 93, of Sylvania, Ohio and recently of Flint, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 in Tyler, Texas. She was born April 30, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Albert Nowakowski and Agnes Nowicki.
Rose graduated from Central Catholic High School in Toledo where she had played basketball and was a cheerleader. Over the years, she belonged to many organizations in the Toledo/Sylvania area including the Sylvania Garden Club, Toastmistress, the Rosary Altar Society of Blessed Sacrament, and the board of the Coral Cay Apartments in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She also volunteered at the Heartbeat of Toledo, Flower Hospital in Toledo and at the Wildwood Preserve Manor House in Sylvania.
From the 1960's to the mid 1980's she co-owned and managed the Still Fish Corporation, a fishing tackle manufacturer in Toledo, Ohio, making her father's dream of marketing his invention become a reality.
Rose is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, historian and author Robert DeArment, and her siblings John Nowakowski, Joan (Nowakowski) Schlautmann, Dorothy (Nowakowski) Sherwin, and Thomas Nowakowski.
Memories of her long life comfort her four surviving children, Rosemary Walter (Marvin and grandson Corbin) of Anacortes, Washington, Paul DeArment of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Joan DeArment Hall (Skip) of Flint, Texas, and Diana Theiss (Richard and son Patrick) of Sylvania, Ohio, as well as her seven grandchildren, Sara Johnson, Melanie Ash, Amanda McDonald, Hunter Hall, Robert Andrew Hall, Robert Lee DeArment and Sophia DeArment Kotok. She lived long enough to welcome a third generation of descendants, eight great-grandchildren: Luke, Nora, Cole and Hayley Johnson, Aisla McDonald, Cameron and Mason Hall and Quill Kotok.
Rose also had several living nieces and nephews and was particularly close to Anne Houghton of Bronson, Michigan, Victoria Kreinbihl of Graytown, Ohio, Maureen Garcia of Whitehouse, Ohio and Thomas Nowakowski of Temperance, Michigan.
