Dr. Ronnie Dale Rasberry, M.D., a man of boundless curiosity, remarkable talents, and profound compassion, passed away on December 26, 2024, at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 80 years old.
Born on April 30, 1944, in Black Oak, Arkansas, Ronnie was the cherished son of Dale Martin Rasberry and Mabel Lee Earle Rasberry, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his brother, Larrey Gene Rasberry.
Ronnie is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Michale Jane Rasberry, his two beloved sons, Richard Dwight Rasberry and Martin Wesley Rasberry, and their families.
Dr. Rasberry dedicated his life to medicine and service. He served his country for eight years as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Medical Corps. While stationed aboard a destroyer division at sea, he served as Chief Medical Officer, tending to the health and well-being of the 2,600 men assigned to his division with unwavering dedication and expertise.
Following his military service, Dr. Rasberry operated a private practice in Searcy, Arkansas, for 17 years, working tirelessly and often long hours to care for his patients and their families. Later, he continued his medical career at the VA Hospital in Memphis, serving veterans with the same steadfast commitment.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ronnie was a true Renaissance man. A theologian, historian, and teacher, he sought to understand and share the mysteries of the world. His adventurous spirit took him to places he had dreamed of, always with a camera in hand, capturing life's beauty through his lens.
A banjo player, songwriter, and lover of bluegrass and country music, Ronnie's melodies brought joy to all who heard them. He was an avid fisherman, naturalist, and zoologist with a profound love for animals, often taking in injured creatures and dreaming of curating a zoo.
Ronnie found joy in the simple pleasures of life?tending his land in Ohio, driving his tractor, exploring flea markets, and collecting treasures. A scholar and a friend, he treated everyone with dignity and respect.
Above all, Ronnie was a devoted husband and a loving father who filled his family's lives with laughter, wisdom, and love. His passing leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Ronnie will be laid to rest on January 3, 2025, at noon, beside his brother Larrey and their parents in Jonesboro Memorial Cemetery, in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Ronnie's family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have offered prayers and support during this difficult time. Please continue to keep Michale, Richard, Martin, and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
