Ronald Erwin "Ron" " Smitty" Smith, 81, of Seymour, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at 11:15 PM. He was born on June 30, 1943, in Anderson, Indiana, to the late William Smith and Wilma Jean(Ryan) Quarels.
Ron was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a graduate of Seymour High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force. After his service, he worked as an electrician at Cummins Engine Company, where he retired after 44 years of dedicated service.
On August 1, 1965, Ron married the love of his life, Judy C. (Hildreth) Smith. Their marriage was blessed with three children and a lifetime of memories. Ron was a devoted husband until her passing on February 22, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Stacey Lea Smith, on August 13, 2002, and his son-in-law, Jon Wells, on January 8, 2019.
Ron was known for being "rotten & ornery" because of his playful and loving nature. A true character, he was the biggest joker and loved to make those around him laugh. He had a unique sense of humor and loved to tease and joke with his family and friends. In his downtime, Ron enjoyed relaxing on his swing in the backyard, sipping a beer, and feeling the breeze. He also enjoyed watching television, particularly his favorite sports, including NASCAR (with a special fondness for Dale Earnhardt Sr.), IU sports, and Colts football. Ron was an avid fan of puzzle games, especially Sudoku and Cribbage, and found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Barbara A. Jaeger of Seymour and Terrence Wayne (Kayla) Smith of Seymour; seven grandchildren, David, Ronni, Kyle, Shae, Erica, Kalista, and Stacey; three step-grandchildren, Brooke, Carson, and Carter; and three sisters, Judy Finigan of Delphi, IN, Sandy Pferrer of Deland, FL, and Christina (Roger) Wagnor of Deland, FL.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Judy, his daughter Stacey, son-in-law Jon Wells, and brothers-in-law Richard Pferrer, Terry Finigan, and Clem Riesenbeck.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville.
