Ronald D. Denny, 83, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the Hope Hospice House in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapid, located 2121 Bowling Street SW. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Ron was born on May 15, 1940, to Donald and Helen (Wojnicki) Denny in Chicago, Illinois. They moved to Cedar Rapids when Ron was very young, and he lived there until his retirement. Ron was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, orneriness, and dedication to his family and friends. After attending St. Matthew School when it was a K-12 school, and graduating from Washington High School, he ventured out to California with a buddy to work and go to school. A few years after returning to Cedar Rapids, he met the love of his life, Rosemary Geraghty. They were married on July 8, 1967, at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ron worked as a Realtor at Hedges Realty, and a salesman at Universal Engineering where he was a top salesman traveling across the country selling crushing and recycling equipment. He earned many accolades in sales and traveled about forty-eight weeks a year. Ron loved his family and was always so proud of them. He was a huge car enthusiast and was a founding member of the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club. He has owned over thirty Corvettes in his lifetime. Corvettes were his first love. He felt very fortunate to wave the flags for some of the races at the Road America racetrack in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. When Ron was four years old his mom and dad purchased land on Lake Namakagon in Cable, Wisconsin, and built a small cabin on it. He was so fond of the lake and all that went with it (another love). He even attended one year of elementary school at the one-room schoolhouse in Cable. He and Rose later built their own, more modern, cabin on that land and passed their love of the lake on to their children and grandchildren. It has been a very special place with tons of memories for his family for almost eighty years! Ron is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Rosemary Denny; their three children, daughter Kara (Pat) Callanan; sons Joe (Kim) Denny, and Mark (Jaci) Denny; seven grandchildren, Jana (Mike Freeman); Kevin (Ally) Callanan; Paige Callanan; Maci Denny; Collin Denny; Trevor Denny; Bo Denny; and five great-grandchildren, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is also survived by his sister Lynn (Dan) Gilbert of Moulton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Helen Denny. Ron's dry sense of humor, orneriness, and fierce, protective, love for his family will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Hospice House Lehigh Acres. The family would like to thank the wonderful care team at Hope Hospice House for their amazing compassion and care.
