Mr. Ronald Gilbert "Ron" Brown, age 82, of Rome, GA, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
Born in Rome, Georgia on May 23, 1940, he was the son of the late Coleman Russell Brown and the late Hazel Beatrice Whittle Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Coleman Brown, and by a sister-in-law, Lavon Brock Broom, and her husband, Calvin Broom.
Ron was a graduate of Rome High School, Class of '58, known to his classmates as "Ronnie". For over 40 years, he served the Rome area as a life insurance agent working for MetLife, Gulf Life, and American General. Many of his co-workers and friends fondly referred to him as "Downtown Ronnie Brown". Upon retiring in 1995, Ron devoted his time to family & began a new hobby of playing golf at age 70. He was a long-time member of South Broad United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees.
Ron's quiet, gentle spirit will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was as sweet as the silver bells (Hershey's Kisses), Little Debbie cakes, and ice cream that he loved almost as much as his family. When he was not consuming sweets (without gaining an ounce) he could be found working with Donna in the yard, golfing with his buddies, or cheering on the Bulldogs & Braves.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Brock Brown, to whom he was married April 15, 1989; his children, Anthony Kyle Brown (Natalie) and Julie Suzanne Brown; step-children, Callie Carter Oswald (Keith), Amy Carter Young (Buster), and Carrie Carter Powell (Steve); grandchildren, Colby Brown, Carter Oswald, Landon Oswald, Audrey Young, Ella Young, Gavin Powell, Carson Powell and Kyleigh Powell; his sister-in-law, Ebie Brown; nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, at South Broad Community Church (formerly known as South Broad United Methodist Church), 546 South Broad Street in Rome with the Reverend Norv Havens officiating. Interment will take place at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens following the service.
Prior to the Celebration of Life, the family will be receiving friends at the church from 1pm until time for the service.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. and include: Jeff Brown, Dawn Brown, Barry Brown, Mason Gilreath, Tony Rogers, and David Thornton.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to those who have graciously given of their time to assist in the care and comfort of Ron during his extended illness, namely, George Jones, for donating his time to serve as caretaker thereby enabling Donna to continue driving her bus. Also, a special thanks to the associates of Heyman Hospice for their care during the past couple of weeks.
